The International Master in Security, Intelligence, and Strategic Studies (IMSISS) is delighted to offer Master Scholarships for students from all around the world.

The aim of the scholarship is to help self-funding students from all around the world.

The International Master in Security, Intelligence and Strategic Studies (IMSISS) is a 24 month Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) awarded by a consortium of three European universities – University of Glasgow (UK); Dublin City University (Ireland); and Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic). Students on this degree programme will examine a broad range of contemporary security challenges, such as terrorism, civil war and conflict, mass migration, energy supply security, cyber security and new technologies, and transnational and serious organized crime. Students will also explore the intelligence and strategic approaches used by governmental and non-governmental actors to combat these threats.

  • Scholarship Award: The IMSISS Erasmus Mundus scholarship includes:
  1. A contribution to the student participation costs (tuition fees, full insurance coverage, and any other mandatory participation costs)
  2. A contribution to student travel and installation costs
  3. A monthly subsistence allowance for the entire duration of the study programme,
  • Nationality: Scholarships are available for students from all around the world.
  • Number of Scholarships: Numbers not given
  • Scholarship can be taken in the UK

  • IMSISS Erasmus Mundus scholarships can be offered to students from any region of the world.

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • You should have a 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject, such as, but not limited to politics, international relations, history, area and cultural studies, law, sociology, criminology, human geography, computing science, language sciences, global studies, psychology, media studies and journalism, modern languages or business. Other disciplines not listed here will be considered on an individual basis.  Applicants with a relevant work experience background in the fields of policing, security, intelligence and risk analysis will also be considered.You can check your country- specific requirements on our country information pages.
  • If you are unsure whether your degree is suitable, you can email the programme convener to discuss.
  • International students with academic qualifications below those required should contact our partner institution, Glasgow International College, which offers a range of pre-Masters courses.

Academic Background:

  • The programme is open to students from various academic backgrounds and we encourage those who have been in employment for some time to consider applying.

English Language Requirements: 

For applicants whose first language is not English, the University sets a minimum English Language proficiency level.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic module (not General Training)

  • Overall score 6.5
  • No sub-test less than 6.0
  • Or equivalent scores in another recognized qualification (see below)
  • Common equivalent English language qualifications

All stated English tests are acceptable for admission for both home/EU and international students for this programme:

  • TOEFL: 90 overall; no sub-test less than Reading: 20 ; Listening: 19; Speaking: 19; Writing: 23
  • CAE (Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English): 176 overall; no sub-test less than 169
  • CPE (Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English):  176 overall; no sub-test less than 169
  • PTE Academic (Person Test of English, Academic test): 60 overall; no sub-test less than 59
  • Trinity College London Integrated Skills in English: ISEII at Distinction with Distinction in all sub-tests

For international students, the Home Office has confirmed that the University can choose to use these tests to make its own assessment of English language ability for visa applications to degree level programmes. The University is also able to accept an IELTS test (Academic module) from any of the 1000 IELTS test centres from around the world and we do not require a specific UKVI IELTS test for degree-level programmes. We therefore still accept any of the English tests listed for admission to this programme.

How to Apply: 

The following documents are required:

  • Degree Certificate (and an official translation)
    NB: Students who have not yet completed their degree can also apply.  Please provide academic transcripts to date.  Offers of a place on the programme will be conditional pending receipt of the final degree result.  Applications will be considered for scholarship but any offer of a scholarship will also be conditional until the final degree result is confirmed. See ‘Note on conditional offers’ below.
  • Official academic transcript(s),translated in to English (official translation) and showing full details of subjects studied and grades/marks obtained
  • Two supporting reference letters on headed paper
  • English Language Proficiency(if your first language is not English)
    In cases where it is not possible to provide proof of language qualification at this stage, applications will still be accepted but any offer of a place on the programme or of a scholarship will be conditional until the test result is received & verified by Admissions.  See ‘Note on conditional offers’ below.
  • A copy of the photo page of your passport

In addition to the above, the following are required by the IMSISS partners. These should also be uploaded to your online application.

  • CV – we highly recommend that you use the Europass CV format
  • Scholarship application form(Please refer to scholarships competition for eligibility criteria)

Please note, in order to be considered for a scholarship, you MUST have submitted ALL of the above documents by 25 January. If your application status is ‘Holding for Documents’ then you will NOT be considered for a scholarship unless you submit the required documents by 25 January.
